YEARNING FOR GOD

This is a natural yearning and longing for God. He is our Maker and He wants to fellowship with us. We were made to love and serve Him with our whole heart and being. The enemy distracts us through trials and difficult situations which make us miss out on Him. But the time comes when our soul gets hungry for Him and nothing else can fill the void. Our hearts also yearn for His presence, just to be with Him. We are down to His purpose and plans for us which leads us to fall on our faces crying out in utter devotion for more of Him. With intense passion, we fall down at His feet, worshipping from the heart, at a loss for words, in wonder and in adoration of His beauty and glory!

It is written, "seek Him, seek Him with all thine heart and you will find Him." - Jeremiah 29:13. Songs of Solomon say, “Draw me; we will run after thee: The king hath brought me into his chambers; We will be glad and rejoice in thee. ”- Song of Solomon 1:4.

This hungry soul and longing takes Joshua to the ‘Tent of meeting’ pitched by Moses during the wilderness journey. When Moses leaves, Joshua stayed behind in fellowship with God. This was where he prepared himself to know God and be known by Him. We all have an assignment from God. We need to tarry in His presence all the time. It is in His presence we get to know Him and love Him more. His presence surrounds us and we are overwhelmed by His goodness and love. Our minds are renewed and our hearts transformed. We experience His peace that passes all understanding and calmness in our troubled soul. We are able to hear the still small voice that guards and leads us through our life’s journey for a life of victory over the foe!

Here are five scriptures you can pray in the secret place in your home at night, in the early morning, or any time of the day. Just be by yourself and be in deep communion to hear His still small voice:

EXODUS 33:9-11 - "And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses. 10 All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door. 11 So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle."

- Joshua lingered in the presence of the Lord which transformed him. There, he received wisdom and the experiential knowledge of God that prepared him for leadership.

MATT 5:6 - "Blessed are they which hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled." - Yes! God will satisfy your longing soul when you seek for more of Him. You will be nourished by His goodness and love. Jeremiah 29:13 says "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

PSALM 42:1-2 - "As the deer pants for streams of water...so my soul pants for you, my God.... My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.... When can I go and meet with God?"

- Here am I Lord, fill me up with more of you. Enlarge my vessels to have more of you. Nothing else can satisfy my soul o Lord but you alone.

PSALM 63:1-2;6-8 - "You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you. My whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.

...When I remember thee upon my bed, And meditate on thee in the night watches. Because thou hast been my help, Therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: Thy right hand upholdeth me."

PSALM 84:1-2 - "How lovely is your dwelling place, LORD Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God."
